MELBOURNE FRINGE FESTIVAL – PROJECT EXILES: THE RETURN OF A MAN CALLED ULYSSES

  • The MC Showroom 48 Clifton Street Prahran, VIC, 3181 Australia (map)

Project Exiles explores Ulysses’ journey back home after the Trojan War, as a metaphor on the necessity of belonging, on the perennial search for the inner self. In Project Exiles, Odyssey is a pretext, situating the narrative in the contemporary life of a dysfunctional family.

Rite of passage and the urge to identify a place as home become the essential triggers of the plot. The conflict is contained in Ulysses’ assertion: “People are not a frozen image in a photograph that you left behind… time doesn’t stop, time doesn’t forgive”. This original theatre script written by Jaime Dörner, refuses to remain obedient to the story and, celebrating the craft, humour and meaning of exploration, concentrates its focus on Telemachus and his search for his father.
