The year is 1885, and Mr Lyster’s Colonial Touring Opera is in another country town in regional Victoria.  Tonight’s opera is Donizetti’s comedy, Don Pasquale, performed by some of the colony’s finest singers and presented by GBD Productions. Sung in Italian with narration, and suitable for all ages.

Don Pasquale, an elderly miser, refuses to allow his nephew to marry Norina, the woman of his dreams.  In retaliation a plot is hatched with Dr Malatesta to trap Pasquale into a phony marriage, and help him see the error of his ways.  Donizetti’s famous comedy is remarkably relevant today and contains one of his most sparkling and emotional scores.
